What exactly is computer software? Software is a collection of instructions, data or programs that provide these instructions to the computer to complete a specific task. In simple language, the program of instructions written in computer language to get any work done by computer is called software.

In today's time, software is being used in almost all devices, whether it is your phone or computer. In all the places you can see the hardware of the device but not the software, but even if it is not visible, it all appropriately directs the hardware to perform any task.

Types of Software 

There are mainly three types of computer software; Application software, system software and utility software.

1. Application Software: 

Applications are programs that perform a specific task or a set of related functions, and are often included with the computer when it is purchased.

2. System Software: 

System software are the individual parts of a computer operating system that allow the computer to perform functions such as operating system, device drivers and utilities.

3. Utility Software: 

Utility software are productivity tools that help facilitate specific tasks or sets of tasks such as word processing, spreadsheet programs, database management, and photo editing software.

Definition of software

Software or what is also called computer software is actually some program that enables the user to perform some specific tasks. It actually directs the computer system or its peripheral devices to do some work and also tells how to do that work.
